The king is a long-time friend of Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, Head of the Russian Imperial House. Grand Duchess Maria and her son Grand Duke George attended the wedding of Fuad's eldest son Crown Prince Muhammad Ali to Princess Noal Zaher of Afghanistan in 2013.
